Girls Only Paint Jams
Creating safe spaces for female artists in street art

Creating safe spaces for female artists in street art
Our annual Girls Only Paint Jam brings together female artists of all skill levels for a day of painting, learning, and community building. Whether you’re completely new to spray paint or an experienced writer, this event creates a supportive space to explore graffiti and street art without the intimidation factor that often comes with the scene.
Street art and graffiti culture has traditionally been male-dominated, which can make it challenging for women to find their place in the scene. We created Girls Only Paint Jams to change that dynamic and give female artists a space where they can learn, create, and connect with confidence.
We provide the walls, the paint, and the encouragement. Experienced female writers naturally mentor newcomers, creating organic learning opportunities. The focus is on collaboration and skill-sharing over competition. Everyone brings something to the table, whether it’s technique, creativity, or just enthusiasm.
This event has become a catalyst for real change in our local graffiti and street art community. Participants leave with new skills, lasting connections, and most importantly, the confidence to see themselves as part of graffiti culture. Many have gone on to create commissioned work and participate in larger street art projects.
What started as a simple idea has grown into something that genuinely empowers women to take up space – literally and figuratively – in street art.
